TLDR;
  • A stroke recovery app specific to female-patients who have experienced transient ischemic attacks (TIAs).
  • First ever UI project!
  • Recently rebuilt for my senior capstone.
Lessons Learned
  • Design can be a tool for raising awareness about gender disparities in healthcare outcomes.
  • Recovery plans must address biological and emotional nuances to truly support patients.
Final Deliverable
  • Prototype focusing on communicating with the patient's care team.
What is Coup?
Coup is a name I derived from the word recuperate. You can see the thought process here:
Coup for Women focuses on women’s recovery after experiencing a transient ischemic attacks (TIAs). The app targets the various areas for growth in an attainable and transparent way while involving members of the care team that are essential in preventing a recurrent stroke.

The app’s main purpose is to provide open communication between doctors, therapists, and the patient so that the recovery process moves along with consistent updates and quick problem solving.
The Problem
When I saw UT’s prompt, I wanted to share what inspired me to pursue product design. With a family history of improperly treated strokes, I’ve always been passionate about healthcare.

Stroke disproportionately affects women, who are also more likely to experience recurrent strokes, often due to a lack of tailored recovery plans. Biological differences, including pre-existing conditions like hypertension or diabetes, pregnancy complications, hormonal imbalances, and mental health factors, make personalized recovery strategies essential for women.
The Prompt
Design is a broad field that can be practiced in many ways for many purposes. As designers, we might create projects that incorporate:
As a budding designer yourself, we’re asking you to create and share with us a new work using TWO of the above approaches for a creative design submission. You can use any medium/format you wish to create your final work.

the solution
An app to help recovering stroke patients that also incorporates inventiveness and problem solving.
Brainstorming
First looked into various potential features: What makes an effective MVP?
After some initial research, I found that there is a lack of resources specifically for women. This is where Coup for women was born.
